Ward Farm Park Maintenance Shop

Project Overview

Ward Farm Recreation and Nature Park opened to the public in 2022 and has quickly become a heavily used recreation and nature destination. Maintenance staff support several miles of wooded and paved trails, three multi-use athletic fields, a disc golf course, an orienteering course, a small playground, and multiple park facilities. However, the park lacks a dedicated maintenance shop for equipment repairs, storage, and daily operations. Staff are currently working out of the 1930s Ward farmhouse and its aging outbuildings, which are not designed or equipped for modern maintenance needs. A new maintenance shop was identified in the park’s Master Plan and is essential to efficiently support ongoing park operations and protect valuable equipment.

Colimore Architects was selected using their existing on-call Architectural & Engineering Services contract with Calvert County to design a 4,047 SQFT maintenance shop and a 3,990 SQFT equipment shed that will be constructed near the northeast corner of the park. It will be accessed by a new paved road extending east from the park entrance road.
